Frequently Asked Questions

When is the church office open?

The church office hours are Monday through Thursday from 8:30AM – 2:30PM. The office is located on the First Floor, to the right of the front entrance, or just outside the door on the right side from the main Sanctuary. If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to call our office at (740) 593-3977 ex 10.

How would you describe your church?

We are a growing congregation focused on traditional worship built for today, passionate spirituality, a Christ-centered youth ministry, and an excellent Christian education program for both children and adults.

What is the worship like?

Worship begins each Sunday at 9:00AM in the Chapel and includes classical hymns, responsive readings, and liturgical prayers. Following early worship, coffee and fellowship time commences in the Welcome Center at the front glass door entrance. At 10:30AM in the Sanctuary we worship again; our Chancel Choir leads worship with a broad range of music and liturgy. All services last approximately an hour.

Will my kids have a positive experience? Are they welcome in worship?

Yes, and YES. We welcome all ages to all services! We have a vibrant children’s ministry with opportunities at both worship hours. It’s a wonderful place where encouragement and praises fill the air while the little ones learn about the vastness of God’s love. You and your children are always invited to join in!  All volunteers and workers follow Safe Sanctuary guidelines. And for the little ones that just can’t quite sit still, our Nursery is staffed during both the early and late services.

Do I need to be part of a denomination to attend?

Absolutely not! Our congregation is made up of people from a variety of traditions. If you’re looking for a loving, Christ-centered church community, we believe you will find it at First United Methodist Church! All are welcome!

What is your weather cancellation policy?

Level 1 Snow Emergency: All ministries will proceed as planned and the office will be open.

Level 2 Snow Emergency: Ministry events curtailed to basic ministries (such as only a 10:30AM service) and the office may be closed.

Level 3 Snow Emergency: Church is closed and all ministry events are cancelled.

* Note: this policy does not necessarily apply to Growing Tree preschool. Please call the GT office to confirm weather-related closures.

If you are uncertain as to whether or not your activity has been cancelled, please refer to our website, our Facebook page, or our Twitter feed where we will make a special post about any closures. We will also update the church voicemail to indicate that the church has closed, which may be reached by calling (740) 593-3977, and will alert local media to the closure.

So… what should I wear?

“And let everyone who is thirsty come. Let anyone who wishes take the water of life as a gift.” — Revelation 22:17 (NRSV)

Some folks come dressed casually, others prefer slightly dressier attire. It’s up to you! Be comfortable!  You’re welcome to be who you are here; so come as you are!
