Guest: Dan Smith, First UMC Treasurer
We met at the Parsonage at 5:30 p.m. and enjoyed a potluck meal and fellowship in addition to our regular meeting. Thank you, Pastor Robert and Penny, for the warm hospitality extended to us and our spouses!
David Koonce opened the meeting with prayer. Pastor Robert noted that it was the anniversary of John Wesley’s Aldersgate experience and spoke briefly about it.
The March 22 minutes were approved by consensus.
Pledge giving through April is ahead of plan by $15,638, and non-pledge giving is ahead by $2,331. Total operating expenses at the end of April are under-budget by $14,127.
All invoices to date have been paid, and there is over $60,000 in cash in the account.
Annual staff evaluations have been completed.
Pastor Robert will preach a 12-week Summer sermon series on The Life of David, beginning on June 10.
Benchmarks are being collected for the College Ministry Grant first-year report, which is due at the end of June.
Pastor Robert spoke briefly about the Apportionments proposal currently under consideration for the 1100 United Methodist churches in the West Ohio Conference. The Conference and District have said that they will be lowering each church’s apportionment amount by 10%.
The current Board liaison to the Growing Tree Preschool Advisory Board will complete her tenure on the Leadership Board in December, so a new liaison will need to be named.
First UMC is entering into a partnership with Pisgah UMC, Chesterhill UMC, Union UMC, and New Marshfield UMC (the congregations served by Rick Seiter and Jenaye Hill) to share special music, offer Holy Communion, and partner in ministry.
The Way Forward update: Pastor Robert reported that the special council of Bishops has announced the One Church Model as their preferred proposal. This would return to the pre-1972 Book of Discipline, which contains no language about the issue and leaves decisions to the discretion of individual churches.
Work on the Parsonage driveway has been completed. Work on drainage from the Parsonage property onto the neighboring property still needs to be completed.
A church energy audit has been conducted, and the cost for First UMC to join Phase I would be $120. Dan Smith will compare this to similar churches so that we can weigh our options.
The need for a security camera system for Growing Tree Preschool and the whole building was discussed. The Trustees and Dan Smith will begin researching systems that would meet our needs.
Our new Nursery attendant, Grace Powers, will begin her duties in August. She will join Megan, who will continue as Nursery attendant during the Summer and next year.
The Pastor/Parish Relations team soon will begin the annual Sr. Pastor Evaluation process with Pastor Robert.
Leadership Board Members:
One vacancy on the Board remains to be filled for the Class of 2020.
We closed in a unison prayer for Rick and Jenaye as they continue in the Local Pastor Licensing Process.
The next meeting is scheduled for Sept.27, 2018 at 6:30 pm.
